Made between March and May 2020, these pieces, though not themselves a statement on extraordinary times, are yet a response to a radically changed milieu. I had noticed how, with a change in human activity, the natural world felt more intense and fertile, the green spaces in which I moved more quiet and reflective. With a decrease in pollution, the voices and presences with which I was then occupied felt amplified in their mystery, preciousness and vulnerability. These sculptures hence represent a time of contemplation and their theme one of sacrifice and ritual performed in answer to suffering - a petition for renewal made to sun, moon and stars.
